New management team in Research & Development
FTC brings two international top-quants to Vienna. FTC Capital, specializing in quantitative investment strategies, is strengthening its Research & Development division with two renowned specialists.
New Chief Investment Officer will be the German economist Prof. Dr. Bernd Scherer. The physicist and quant specialist Dr. Stefanel Radu will serve as Head of Research.
As new Chief Investment Officer and member of the management board Prof. Dr. Bernd Scherer is responsible for the investment process at FTC. Research & Development, System Programming as well as Trading report to him. Bernd Scherer combines a profound scholastic background with long lasting practical experience in international asset management. He studied economics at the universities in Augsburg, London and Gießen where he completed his PhD with a thesis in the subject area finance econometrics “Summa cum Laude”. He is a tenured professor at the EDHEC business school and held numerous guest lectures at the Columbia University New York, the Birkbeck College at the University of London or the WHU Koblenz among others. Most recently Dr. Scherer served as Managing Director at Morgan Stanley in London. Previous employers were Schroders Investment Management, Sal. Oppenheim and Deutsche Asset Management in Frankfurt and New York where he was Global Head of Quantitative Research. Numerous publications in scientific periodicals earned Dr. Scherer the reputations as a sought after expert in portfolio and risk management. His book “Portfolio Construction and Risk Budgeting” – currently in its 4th edition – is considered the standard work on quantitative portfolio management.
As Head of Research the Romanian born Dr. Stefanel Radu leads the research team of FTC. Most recently he was responsible for quantitative analysis and research at Kaiser Trading Group in Melbourne, a managed futures fund with more than two billion dollars under management. Before that he worked as senior analyst in quantitative research and trading system development at Goldman Sachs Australia. Stefanel Radu studied nuclear physics in Bucharest and earned his PhD with a work in chaos theory at the Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg.
